Repeatability of Freehand Implantations Supported with Universal Plastic Sleeves—In Vitro Study

Abstract: Repeatability and precision are major factors which have an influence on final implant treatment results. The aim of this study was to evaluate the repeatability of freehand implant procedures assisted with special plastic sleeves which are placed on the drill to guarantee the proper mesiodistal distance from the landmark’s surface. Patient data required for implant treatment, including images of mandibles from CBCT scans and virtual models of soft tissues and teeth, were used to prepare complete virtual model… Show more

“…The same time required for accurate guide stabilization with bone anchors during extensive surgery may disappear when comparing time required to make similar surgery freehand without this process. Nevertheless, time of main surgery and implants sites preparation may be shorter with guided approach or even if the simple guiding devices are used [1].…”

“…Analysis of in vitro and in vitro studies, as well as systematic reviews, clearly lead to the conclusion that using individual CAD/CAM (Computer-aided design/Computer-aided manufacturing) guides may be the best way to achieve great accuracy and remain in line with the concept of prosthetically driven treatment plan in implant dentistry [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Stereolithographic surgical guides are also one of the most popular application of 3D printing in oral and maxillofacial surgery [7][8][9].…”

“…The surgical guides can provide higher accuracy (Tallarico et al. , 2021; Zadrożny et al ., 2020), shorter surgical time (Zadrożny et al ., 2022a) and fewer complications (Colombo et al ., 2017). However, the planning process is time-consuming.…”

“…Kernen et al (2020) examined five commercially available systems and described the technology, design and limitations of these existing systems. The surgical guides can provide higher accuracy (Tallarico et al, 2021;Zadro_ zny et al, 2020), shorter surgical time (Zadro_ zny et al, 2022a) and fewer complications (Colombo et al, 2017).
