Repeatability and reproducibility of measurements of the suburethral tape location obtained in pelvic floor ultrasound performed with a transvaginal probe

Abstract: IntroductionImplants used to treat patients with urogynecological conditions are well visible in US examination. The position of the suburethral tape (sling) is determined in relation to the urethra or the pubic symphysis.Aim of the studyThe study was aimed at assessing the accuracy of measurements determining suburethral tape location obtained in pelvic US examination performed with a transvaginal probe.Material and methodsThe analysis covered the results of sonographic measurements obtained according to a st… Show more

“…Exploration of the pelvic floor has been developed through three approaches: transabdominal [ 93 , 94 ], transperineal [ 95 , 96 ], and intracavitary [ 97 , 98 ]. The transabdominal approach [ 9 ] allows the probe to be drifted in three spatial axes of about 10º each, without any measuring errors.…”

“…In addition to standard diagnostic methods, such as cough stress test, pad test, voiding diary or urodynamic testing, ultrasonography is also likely to play an important role in the diagnosis and assessment of patients with SUI (2) . Pelvic floor ultrasound performed with transvaginal probe (PFS-TV) shows excellent and good repeatability of the obtained results (4,7,8) . In addition to sonographic evaluation of urethral and bladder neck mobility, as well as postoperative sonographic localization of the tape, visualization of urethral funneling, which, according to different authors, may overlap with SUI in 18.6% to 100% women, is also possible (2,9) .…”

“…Hierfür sollten vorrangig nicht ionisierende bildgebende Verfahren genutzt werden. Die transrektale und intravaginale Beurteilung der "Vitalmorphologie" mittels Beckenbodensonografie gehört inzwischen zur urogynäkologischen Routinediagnostik [8,9,53]. Mit der Einführung neuer hochauflösender Sonden ist es nunmehr möglich, das gesamte Becken in Ruhe und unter Belastung in seiner Dynamik zu beurteilen (▶ Abb.…”
