Reparation of chromatic dispersion using dispersion compensation bank and bit-error rate analysis at various power levels in 40 Gbps fiber optics system

Abstract: Chromatic dispersion also called group velocity dispersion (GVD), is a very serious issue for communication engineers to design a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system. The pulse gets broader with increasing length of fiber due to chromatic dispersion and this pulse broadening effect stimulates the adjacent bit periods to overlap which causes inter symbol interference (ISI). The chromatic dispersion also has inverse relation with Four wave mixing (FWM) and Four wave mixing is minimum when chromatic dis… Show more

“…T. Xie et al [17] gave a model for dispersion compensation having a 40 Gbps transmission rate over multiple distances of 50, 100 and 200 km using SMF. A dispersion compensation bank was provided comprising multiple distinct dispersion compensators such as FBG, ideal DCF grating and Gaussian optical filter.…”

“…The survey is made based on the results procured by Optisystem simulator. The various signal performances are examined at SMF (Single mode fiber) with different power levels of input by utilizing eye diagram, BER analyzer and also maximum quality factor [4]. E. Fabrice Mfuamba Kabonzo et al, 2015 they presented that the combination of radio above fiber technology along with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing which resulted in excessive data rates and components with reduced cost.…”

“…The nonlinear impairments in the Single Mode Fibre (SMF) are mainly caused by chromatic dispersion and polarisation mode dispersion (PMD). Chromatic dispersion is induced by the change in the refractive index, which influences the difference in the group velocity of the wavelengths of a signal [4][5][6]. High bandwidth transmission is severely affected in a single channel transmission by the polarisation mode dispersion and group velocity dispersion (GVD).…”
