Renewable energy development in rural areas of Iran

Abstract: Iran's energy system is extremely dependent on fossil fuels which, in turn, have led to problems such as fossil fuels depletion, social, economic and environmental damage and territorial imbalance. The country should therefore design a sustainable energy system based on clean energy as well as renewable energy. Accordingly, and given that Iran's rural areas suffer from the unsustainable energy system, it is necessary to integrate renewable energy into comprehensive development programs in general, and into rur… Show more

“…There has been a great effort to reduce exhaust emissions from the diesel engine burning of fossil fuels . Accordingly, many studies provide various solutions to these threats . Heavy dependence on fossil fuel and high production volume of pollutants and wastes and mismanagement of these pollutants and limit refinement of nature have caused environmental crisis .…”

“…In today's world, fossil fuels reign over the global energy systems. But, due to the reduction of resources of non-renewable energy, and the pollution and environmental damage that has been caused, the world is turning towards renewable energy sources (Afsharzade et al, 2016) . In this study, Figure 1 indicates the total energy consumption in Iran and across the world (Hamzeh, Ashori, Mirzaei, Abdulkhani, & Molaei, 2011;Mostafaeipour & Abarghooei, 2008;Najafi, Ghobadian, Tavakoli, & Yusaf, 2009).…”

“…Iran, in addition to having different sources of fossil energy, also has various renewable energy resources (Bahrami & Abbaszadeh, 2016). Such resources that have been discussed by researchers include solar energy (Afsharzade et al, 2016), wind energy (Mostafaeipour & Abarghooei, 2008), hydropower energy (Derakhshan & Nourbakhsh, 2008;Ghorashi & Rahimi, 2011), biomass (Afazeli, Jafari, Rafiee, & Nosrati, 2014;Noorollahi, Kheirrouz, Asl, Yousefi, & Hajinezhad, 2015), and geothermal energy (Bahrami & Abbaszadeh, 2013;Noorollahi, Yousefi, Ehara, & Itoi, 2008).…”
