Renewable energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in Ghana: the effect of financial strength of listed financial institutions

Abstract: Purpose The desire for a sustainable environment has led to the need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and increase renewable energy usage. Empirical evidence generally shows that financial development has a significant effect on these two variables. However, little is known about how the financial strength of financial institutions influences them in the fight against climate change. This study aims to assess the effect of the financial strength of listed financial institutions on renewable energy consumptio… Show more

“…to reduce CO2 emissions. Institutional quality variables of control of corruption, rule of law, regulatory quality, political stability and absence of violence, voice and accountability, and government effectiveness reduce CO2 emissions (Kwakwa, 2023). Irresolute institutional governance through weaker rule of law induces pollution, while control of corruption theoretically works against pollution levels.…”

“…For both tests, the null hypothesis of homogeneous unit root states that "all sections in the panel are nonstationary", while under the alternative hypothesis, "at least, one individual section is stationary". Both tests are largely used in the literature regarding the impact of various economic, financial, or energy variables such as globalisation, economic growth, financial development, renewable/non-renewable energy on carbon emissions and environmental quality [104,[116][117][118][119][120][121][122][123][124][125][126][127][128][129][130][131][132][133][134][135].…”
