“…The toxicity of antineoplastic agents in older patients may be different from that in younger individuals because of the decreased hepatic or renal functions that are the main mechanisms of elimination [15][16][17][18] . Although the age-related decrement in GFR is a fact, no convincing evidence exists that the incidence and severity of platinum nephrotoxicity increase with the age of the patient [19,20] . Similarly, we adjusted cisplatin dosage according to creatinine clearance for only 2 patients and observed only one incidence of chemotherapy-induced nephrotoxicity.…”

“…Furthermore, a marked discrepancy between the CG and the MDRD formulae has been observed in a large population of over 65 years of age (20) and these formulae have been found to lack a consistent proportion of patients with renal failure within a population of octogenarian inpatients (21). Studies estimating renal function in solid cancer patients have previously been published (22)(23)(24)(25). However, the number of the cancer patients aged 80 years or older evaluated for renal function was limited (24,25).…”

“…Studies estimating renal function in solid cancer patients have previously been published (22)(23)(24)(25). However, the number of the cancer patients aged 80 years or older evaluated for renal function was limited (24,25). Therefore, additional studies focusing specifically on renal function in very elderly lung cancer patients are required.…”

“…Cisplatin is one of the most effective and widely used anticancer drugs, and it is considered to have acceptable toxicity for old patients (35,38). No increased toxicity was observed in the elderly when the cisplatin dose was increased (52,58), and it was suggested that its toxicity was inversely dependent on the dose administered. We found that a low dose of cisplatin causes necrosis in old cells whereas a high dose induces apoptosis.…”
