“…A recent, large-scale retrospective study of 258 patients which included 70 patients who underwent primary remplissage for recurrent shoulder instability found a return to sport rate of 91.5% in overhead and contact athletes 5 . Notably, in the group of patients who underwent Latarjet, the return to sports rate was only 72.7% 5 . Subset analysis of rate of return to throwing sports such as basketball, baseball, and football found lower rates of 65.5%, largely because of patient-reported decreases in range of motion (ROM) during throwing and winding motions 44 .…”

“…Risks of postoperative complications, however, are known to be higher with the Latarjet procedure when compared with Bankart repair with remplissage 4,5,37,40,41 . Horinek et al 5 retrospectively compared 188 Latarjets and 70 remplissages at a minimum follow-up of 2 years postoperatively. Despite greater bipolar bone loss in the remplissage group, there was no difference in postoperative dislocation (3.2% for Latarjet and 1.4% for remplissage; p = 0.68).…”

“…Finally, additional glenohumeral stability can be restored at end range of motion by a capsulolabral reconstruction [15]. The Latarjet procedure was further reported to enable early return to sport compared to capsulolabral repair [16,17]. However, the downsides are potential fracture and malunion of the coracoid bone graft along with reported stiffness secondary to the subscapularis split [18][19][20][21], and lower postoperative external rotation [16].…”
