Removal of Toxic Metal Ions Using Poly(BuMA–co–EDMA) Modified with C-Tetra(nonyl)calix[4]resorcinarene

Abstract: A copolymer of poly(BuMA–co–EDMA) modified with C-tetra(nonyl)calix[4]resorcinarene was obtained via the impregnation method. The formation of the modified copolymer was confirmed and investigated using various techniques; in this way, the presence of calix[4]resorcinarene was confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy and by high resolution transmission electron microscopy. The modified copolymer was used for the removal of highly toxic cations (Pb2+, Hg2+, and Cd2+) from aqueous solutions. To perform the removal, we us… Show more

“…As shown in Table 1, the characterization of the compounds was performed using ESI-TOF/MS, FT-IR, 1 H-NMR, and 13 C-NMR spectroscopy (Figures S1-S4). Compounds 1-5 had been previously synthesized [39][40][41], and our spectroscopic data agreed with those reported (Figures S5-S18); however, the following aspects should be noted: the signals of the macrocyclic compounds are described and they exhibited similar behavior. The characteristic band for OH was seen in the FT-IR spectrum, and the characteristic bands for aromatic and alkyl substituents were resolved.…”

“…Continuing with our research on polyhydroxylated platforms [17][18][19][20], in this article the complexing capacity of three macrocycles systems: 2-hydroxypropyl-α-cyclodextrin, 2hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin and 2-hydroxypropyl-γ-cyclodextrin, with hydrocortisone (Figure 1) were evaluated. The formed complexes were analyzed by using FT-IR and 1 H-NMR spectroscopy.…”
