Alonso, Chávez, Polo, Ayala, Vidal & Salazar (2016) showed that peroxidases extracted from chayote were efficient in the removal of pentachlorophenol, a mutagenic and persistent halogenated hydrocarbon pesticide used for preserving wood against fungi, bacteria and insects.
