2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is the most commonly used herbicide in plant protection products. 2,4-D is poorly biodegradable and it is often found in aquatic environment. The development of an effective way to reduce the amount of this toxic contaminant from aqueous solution became an urgent issue. Therefore, in this study series of aminosilane-grafted mesoporous carbons were synthesized, characterized and then applied as adsorbents for 2,4-D. The impact of various factors such as the contact time (0-360 min) of herbicide with adsorbents, pH (2-11), temperature (25, 45, 60 °C) and initial concentration (6.25-150 mg/l) of the 2,4-D on the sorption capacity of materials was analyzed. The results proved that functionalization of mesoporous carbons with aminosilane increased the sorption capacity (q e = 142-191 mg/g) towards herbicide compared to pristine material (q e = 109 mg/g). The functional groups presented on the surface of materials enhanced the interaction between mesoporous carbons and herbicide. The most effective adsorbent for 2,4-D was the material that had the highest amount of basic groups on the surface (2.79 mmol/g) of all samples tested (0.06-0.52 mmol/g). For all studied materials the Langmuir model was the most suitable to describe the isotherms of 2,4-D adsorption (R 2 = 0.999). While the kinetics of herbicide adsorption on the functionalized mesoporous carbons were best fitted to the pseudo-second-order model. The presented study proved that the aminosilane-grafted mesoporous carbons could be promising adsorbents for effective removal of 2,4-D from aqueous environment.

The green adsorbents were prepared by using cranberry (Cornus mas) kernel shell (CKS), rosehip (Rosa canina) seed shell (RSS), and banana (Musa cavendishii) peel (BP) and were proved in removing Cr(VI). Several parameters to remove Cr(VI) such as pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time, initial Cr(VI) ions concentration, and temperature were tested. The functional groups in the matrix of CKS, RSS, and BP were detected by FT-IR for raw biomasses together with Cr(VI). The equilibrium results were inspected using four different isotherm models, with a better fitting to the Langmuir model. The maximum adsorption quantities for Cr(VI) ions were 10.42, 15.17, and 6.81 mg/g for BP, RSS, and CKS, respectively. The interrelationship coefficients were expressed by a pseudo-second-order kinetic model, assuming that the overall Cr(VI) adsorption rate is limited by the rate of adsorbate diffusion in the pores of biomass.

Photocatalytic degradation of noxious water and air impurities like Methylene blue (MB), Rhodamine B (RhB), NO x-, and CO is carried out by pristine and Ti-doped BaMnO 3 (BaMn 0.85 Ti 0.15 O 2.93 , BMT). Perovskite BMT ceramic mixed with equimolar ratio of zeolite is used for investigation of water and air pollutant degradation. The synthesized Ti-doped BaMnO 3 (BaMn 0.85 Ti 0.15 O 2.93 , BMT) perovskite was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and FE-SEM techniques. The XRD pattern of Ti-doped BaMnO 3 shows the formation of two phases, namely BaMnO 2.92 and BaMn 0.85 Ti 0.15 O 2.93 and BMT. The photocatalytic degradation of noxious water and air pollutants were analyzed using UV-Vis and XPS for doped and pristine BaMnO 3 . From obtained results, it is observed that the synthesized BMT shows enhanced photocatalytic degradation (~ 99%) as compared to BaMnO 3 toward noxious water impurities like RhB and MB dyes within 270 and 150 min under sunlight. The synthesized BMT compound shows the absorbance spectrum in the wavelength range of 200-600 nm. The UV-Vis DRS confirms the absorption edges for the compound above 400 nm i.e., visible light absorber with a bandgap 2.48 eV. On the other hand, XPS analysis of bulk BMT-zeolite on exposure to sunlight shows the complete degradation of adsorbed NO x gases from the BMT-zeolite surface as compared to the unexposed zeolite sample surface. Therefore, BMT can be used as active photocatalytic agent for the remediation of environmental noxious water and air pollutants.
