Removal of carbon dioxide using zeolitic imidazolate frameworks: Adsorption and conversion via catalysis

Abstract: Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the culprit causes of global climatic changes. Furthermore, the efficient separation of CO2 from other gaseous mixtures using zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF)‐based materials is vital for several processes such as flue gas separation, gas sweetening, and natural gas processing. ZIF‐based materials are emerging adsorbents and catalysts for CO2 gas removal via adsorption and conversion into valuable chemicals. ZIF‐based adsorbents with high‐adsorption/conversion efficiencies an… Show more

“…There are three main steps for polymerization: initiation, propagation, and termination. MOFs are coordination polymer formed via self-asselmbly of metal ions and organic linkers [28,42,43,49,51,52,58,65,66,155]. They can be decomposed into their constituent in harsh consition i.e.…”

“…The generated hydrogen can be used for dye degradation [182]. ZIFs-based materials were reviewed as efficient adsorbents and catalysts for CO2 removal via adsorption and conversion into value-added compounds [184][185][186][187][188]. ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 can be in-situ grown into cellulosic filter paper that was used as an efficient catalyst for the reduction of water pollutants such as nitrophenols [189].…”

“…The removal of CO 2 can be achieved via several methods including adsorption, conversion, and fixation. 15 The advances in CO 2 removal require advanced materials with high adsorption performance. 14,16 Among different adsorbents, ZIF materials offered high CO 2 adsorption capacity with good selectivity and high potential for large-scale production.…”
