Removal of 17β-estradiol from aqueous systems with hydrophobic microspheres

Abstract: Sub-microparticles have many applications in different fields today. In this study, it is aimed to develop hydrophobic microparticles as an alternative to existing methods and to determine the 17β-estradiol adsorption performance of this adsorbent to purify the 17β-estradiol hormone which is found as an endocrine disruptor in environmental waters with high capacity and low cost. In this study, l-phenylalanine containing Poly(HEMA-MAPA) microparticles were synthesized by microemulsion polymerization and used as… Show more

“…Correlation between the equilibrium data and the Langmuir-1 isotherm model was found to be high (R 2 ) (Table 3). The Langmuir model is based on the assumption of homogeneous adsorption energies to the surface and the absence of adsorbate transition in the surface plane [40,[43][44][45][46][47][48][49][50].…”

“…The adsorption time of endosulfan adsorption on both m-DE-APTES and DE-APTES was investigated via the batch system (Erol et al, 2020;Erol and Uzun, 2017;Erol, 2017a;Erol, 2017b;Kireç et al, 2021;Erol et al, 2021;Erol, 2017c;Tosun Satir and Erol, 2021) at 25 °C. Throughout the experiments, four different endosulfan concentrations (100.0-750.0 mg L −1 ) were used at various times (10-60 min) (Figure 6). As shown in Figure 5, the adsorption capacity of m-DE-APTES for endosulfan increased within 45 min and then reached equilibrium at the 60th minute.…”

“…Three renowned isotherms (Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin) were adopted to describe MB dye-SBWAC interaction by means of adsorbent affinity and adsorption potential of SBWAC towards MB dye. Langmuir model specifically describes the homogeneous and monolayer adsorption on fixed adsorption sites (Kireç et al 2021). Freundlich model assumes the heterogeneous multilayer adsorption on different surface energies (Erol et al 2019a(Erol et al , 2019b Meanwhile, Temkin isotherm model describes that the heat of adsorption decreases with the adsorption coverage due to the adsorbent-adsorbate interactions (Bahrudin et al 2019).…”
