Soil is naturally available material used for construction all over the world. When this material available in form of natural slope can cause landslide. Purpose of this study is to understand behavior of different causal factor of landslide at Himachal Pradesh and then suggest some remedial measure. To fulfill this, aim five-year data of precipitation for every district is collected from metrological department and analyzed. Data of earthquake activities is also collected. Work done by different author in this area is analyzed thoroughly. It is found that the change in climatic conditions such as increase in precipitation over years, earthquakes and anthropogenic interference has increased the landslide susceptibility of area. Remedial measure suggested as use of landslide susceptibility zonation map future land use pattern, use of advance technology like soil nail and gabion wall and use of numerical modeling to analyze slope stability.

Soil erosion of cover for earth covered magazine (ECM) storage presents a unique challenge to traditional embankment practices. Due to the strict guidelines on the necessary soil cover, as well as material allowed for use in erosion deterrence, many traditional soil erosion techniques are not allowable. This report investigates current soil erosion techniques and their applicability to magazine cover focusing on regulations, costs, and ease of implementation. The techniques investigated were based on currently used techniques from 2003 to the present but did not include researchonly stage mechanisms. The objective of this research effort was to investigate currently available erosion mitigation methods and their feasibility for ECM application. Main areas of concern for ECMs are envisioned to be cost, ease of implementation, and potential for added debris. Based on the reviewed literature, it appears that chemical or vegetative stabilization are likely the best methods for ECMs' erosion prevention. This assumes that simple soil compaction is not adequate, as it is otherwise generally the best approach. After a selection is made of a proposed solution to this issue, additional testing is suggested as a proof of erosion deterrence. Unexpected failure of compacted soils was explained using design curves of the Rational Methodology for Compacted Geomaterial’s Density and Strength Analysis (RAMCODES). Forensic geotechnical evaluation, applied to a compacted soil used at a construction site, demonstrated that the bearing capacity of the soil was influenced by the water content and the dry unit weight. At the construction site, the only criterion used for quality control of the compacted soil was the minimum compaction percentage; the maximum dry unit weight (achieved using the standard Proctor test) was used when the soil was compacted with light equipment, and the maximum dry unit weight (achieved using the modified Proctor test) was used when it was compacted with heavy equipment. After changing water content conditions, the soil compacted with heavy equipment and the soil compacted with light equipment exhibited changes in bearing capacity; the soil compacted with light equipment showed a failure, whereas the soil compacted with heavy equipment did not. The causes of failure were evaluated from samples of soil analyzed in the laboratory; analysis was performed using design curves obtained through a factorial experimental design. Our analysis revealed that the criterion of minimum compaction percentage was not adequate to determine the actual mechanical performance of the soil. We sought to determine why the soil compacted with light equipment did not satisfy the bearing capacity expected after compaction, and what other actions should performed at a construction site to avoid failure of soils compacted with light equipment.
