“…4,10,13,14,18,20,26,28,38 Our series fits this trend with one exception. Three patients (8%) who went on to develop brain metastasis had Stage A disease at their initial prostate carcinoma diagnosis.…”

“…The mean survival in our patients (most of whom also received radiotherapy) was 9.2 months. Senoh et al, 38 in a review of 12 patients reported by them and others, found that only 5 patients survived for longer than 1 year. The small numbers in our series preclude any definitive statement on the best mode of therapy, but the poor prognosis of these patients may be improved with judicious surgical intervention, and others have achieved palliation with its use in individual cases.…”

“…In this patient, the metastatic lesion in the brain has regressed only with hormonal therapy and he has survived for more than 1 year. Only Senoh et al [8] reported a survival case of metastatic prostatic cancer in the brain which was treated only with hormonal therapy. It is likely that the administered hor monal agent passed through the blood-brain barrier in these cases.…”

“…Common primary sites of metastatic lesions in the brain include the lung, breast and gastrointestinal tract [4,5], The incidence of metastasis of prostatic carci noma in the brain is 2.4% in large series of studies [6,7], According to the literature, the prognosis of prostatic carcinoma with metastases to the brain is poor [8], Espe cially, patients treated only with endocrine or irradiation therapy, not combined with resection of the brain tumor, may survive only for a short period of time.…”

“…The presentation of carcinoma of the prostate with an apparently solitary brain metastasis is most unusual, although Catane et al (1976) reported brain metastases in 4.4% of 211 autopsies on patients with carcinoma of the prostate. Optimal treatment usually involves a combination of neurosurgical excision and hormonal manipulation (Senoh et al, 1989).…”
