Sustainable development is now the focus of researchers and organizations worldwide. Several concepts, such as reverse logistics (RLs) and closed-loop supply chains, have been introduced to encourage sustainability in supply chains. RLs refers to the set of activities needed by consumers to collect the product used for reuse, repair, remanufacturing, recycling, or disposal of the used product. There are various processes involved in RL, and one of them is collection systems. Collection refers to a company obtaining custody of specific items. We review the literature on RLs collection systems. A bibliometric analysis was conducted to provide better insight into the field and establish any trends. Firstly, we present the classification methods used in the field, based on available review papers. Secondly, we evaluate literature from several fields that are related to either the problem setting or the technical features. Different perspectives are presented and classified. This method facilitates the identification of manuscripts related to the reader’s specific interests. Throughout the literature review, trends in measuring the performance of collection systems are identified, and directions for future research are identified and presented.

Circular economy is an alternative to the traditional production model and has therefore attracted a great deal of attention from researchers. The change in the production system is accompanied by new logistical needs related both to resources and waste and to the distribution and recovery of products. The circular supply chain involves return processes and the manufacturer intends to capture additional value in the supply chain. In this paper, value chains have been mapped to visualize the links and interactions between the different stages and actors to understand the complexities of these systems and to make informed decisions. For this reason, and based on thorough literature review, the final objective of this work is to achieve a conceptual framework to study circular supply chain, which uses the main theoretical perspectives in strategic management literature. Four dimensions have been identified to support the development of these new supply chains—greater intensity in the relationships established in the supply chain, adaptation of logistics and organizational, disruptive and smart technologies, and a functioning environment. It can be concluded that to develop a new relationship capacity will allow for reaching more frequent, closer relationships with more actors. These relationships will be developed within an adapted organizational and logistical framework that is framed in new business model archetypes. However, dimensions related to the business environment such as sectoral, legislative, and fiscal frameworks must be incorporated.

Understanding consumer valuation of remanufactured products is vital to the success of the remanufacturing business. However, whether and how product categories and business models influence the consumer valuation have not been investigated in detail. To test the effects of product categories and business models on the consumer valuation and acceptance of remanufactured products empirically, this study presents a survey on the relative value of remanufactured products perceived by the consumers. Six product categories (low-end laptops, high-end laptops, smartphones, gaming consoles, printers, and water purifiers) and two business models (the buying model and the rental model) were selected as the factors. Negative perception (NP), purchase intention (PI), and acceptable prices (APs) were used as measures of the perceived value. A group of 95 students from a Korean university participated in the survey. Statistical hypothesis testing shows that both the product categories and the business models cause significant differences in the relative value of remanufactured products. Especially, the results indicate that certain product categories are more advantageous for remanufacturing from a consumer-demand viewpoint. The results also show that the suitability of the rental model varies across the product categories; for certain categories, the rental model can be a better option for remanufacturing.
