Reliability of vehicle-to-vehicle communication at urban intersections

Abstract: Reliability of the Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication is one of the key factors towards ensuring large-scale deployment of the cooperative vehicular systems. From the communication perspective, urban intersection scenarios can be challenging due to a frequent absence of line-of-sight (LOS) conditions. It is often combined with highly dense network conditions due to high amount of traffic lights, fast route changes and stop-and-go traffic. In this paper, we evaluate the reliability of V2V applications at ur… Show more

“…The work in [8] addresses the impact of radio shadowing, which is identified as the cause of strongly time-variant signals in vehicular networks. The effect of channel load is also subject of investigation in the simulation-based study in [9]. In [10], the authors study the effect of interference on the safetycritical communication on a highway.…”

“…In [295], V2V channel characteristics have been evaluated in a dynamic intersection framework at 5.9 GHz. The authors in [296] have tested the reliability of V2V communications at a crowded intersection and presented the benefit of buildings to decrease interference in circumstances with severe network congestion. In [297], control algorithms have been presented with an experimental prototype for collective collision avoidance at traffic intersections and in merging situations.…”

“…Their work lacked the impact of congestion on the beacon rate as well as the latest congestion control methods. Zinchenko et al [345] investigated the impact of various densities on static beacon intervals of 5, 10 and 15 Hz and figured out that information freshness of 0.2 second is not reachable for the rate 5Hz. To examine this V2X reliability test, they moved the receiver along the road while the transmitter was maintained at different fixed locations.…”
