IntroductionHealth‐related quality of life (HRQoL) studies demonstrate the impact of end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) on the physical and psychosocial development of children. While several instruments are used to measure HRQoL, few have standardized domains specific to pediatric ESRD. This review examines current evidence on self and proxy‐reported HRQoL among pediatric patients with ESRD, based on the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) questionnaires.MethodsFollowing PRISMA guidelines, we conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis on HRQoL using the PedsQL 4.0 Generic Core Scale (GCS) and the PedsQL 3.0 ESRD Module among 5‐ to 18‐year‐old patients. We queried PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Cochrane databases. Retrospective, case‐controlled, and cross‐sectional studies using PedsQL were included.FindingsOf 435 identified studies, 14 met inclusion criteria administered in several countries. Meta‐analysis demonstrated a significantly higher total HRQoL for healthy patients over those with ESRD (SMD:1.44 [95% CI: 0.78–2.09]) across all dimensional scores. In addition, kidney transplant patients reported a significantly higher HRQoL than those on dialysis (PedsQL GCS, SMD: 0.33 [95% CI: 0.14–0.53]) and (PedsQL ESRD, SMD: 0.65 [95% CI: 0.39–0.90]) concordant with parent‐proxy reports.DiscussionPatients with ESRD reported lower HRQoL in physical and psychosocial domains compared with healthy controls, while transplant and peritoneal dialysis patients reported better HRQoL than those on hemodialysis. This analysis demonstrates the need to identify dimensions of impaired functioning and produce congruent clinical interventions. Further research on the impact of individual comorbidities in HRQoL is necessary for developing comprehensive, integrated, and holistic treatment programs.

The association between obstructive sleep-disordered breathing (oSDB) and arterial stiffness, an independent predictor of cardiovascular outcomes, is not well established in children. This study compared cardiovascular parameters between healthy and oSDB children and aimed to identify predictors of arterial stiffness indices in children with oSDB. MethodsCross-sectional study realized in a tertiary hospital from June 2018 to January 2020. 48 children (3 to 10 years old) with clinical diagnosis of oSDB and indication for adenotonsillectomy and 24 controls were evaluated. Cardiovascular parameters were measured non-invasively by brachial artery oscillometry with What Is New Children with oSDB have augmented arterial stiffness, evidenced by the increase in AIx@75, measured non-invasively by brachial artery oscillometry with a portable device.Low quality of life and therefore a high disease burden in children with oSDB may be a risk factor for arterial stiffness.

Background & Objectives Developmental Coordination Disorder is a condition that affects motor performance and causes difficulty in learning, and activities of daily living. This condition is very prevalent in children who suffer from poor balance and motor impairments. The Objectives of this study are to determine the effects of trampoline exercises on motor performance and to assess the balance and quality of life in children. Methodology This randomized, placebo treatment-control trial was conducted at Federal Government Polyclinic Hospital in Islamabad Pakistan. Sample of 26 children, diagnosed with developmental coordination disorder consecutively aged 5–12 years meeting inclusion criteria were isolated into two groups; control and experimental using purposive sampling. The Participants in the control group performed conventional physical therapy and the experimental group received trampoline jumping exercise interventions 3x times a week for one hour and 1 hour 15 mins for experimental (trampoline group) for eight weeks with conventional physical therapy sessions. We used three validated questionnaires; Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCDQ), Paediatric Balance Scale (PBS), and Paediatric Quality of life (PQL). The data were analyzed using SPSS 21. A p-value<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results Out of 26 participants, the mean age and S.D were 8.8±1.0. About 43% were males and 58%, were females. In the experimental group, the motor performance showed a significant difference between the two groups in the 8th-week p<0.007, and non-significant results for balance improvement p>0.05. The quality of life showed significant results at the 4th week with a p<0.03 and a non-significant difference between a group at the 8th week with p>0.05 and both groups estimated a p<0.001. Conclusion Although physical therapy is commonly utilized for treating children with developmental disorders, incorporating trampoline exercises into the program has been associated with improved motor performance.
