Reliability measure for sound source localization

Abstract: Abstract:In this paper, we propose a method of measuring the reliability of direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation results. One idea for the reliability measure arises from a waterbed effect in DOA estimation. The reliability measure can be obtained from the difference between the maximum and minimum point of cross-correlation. If the calculated reliability measure has a lower value than a predefined threshold, the estimated DOA is regarded as a wrong result and subsequently discarded. Some experiments show tha… Show more

“…The searching method for the DOA estimation is very similar to a spectral estimation such as a periodogram. Therefore the waterbed effect in DOA estimation can be obtained by similar process to spectral estimation (Jeon et al 2007). Let () ω Φ be the power spectral density of a Gaussian white noise process and ˆ( ) ω Φ be the periodogram estimate of () ω Φ .…”

“…The concept of reliability measure was presented in (Jeon et al, 2007) and (Jeon, 2008). Figure 3 shows the cross-correlation value of the GCC-PHAT when the speech source is present at a direction of 0° and when the speech source is absent.…”

“…The waterbed given by the maximum value of the log-likelihood function effect in DOA estimation can be reduced by a similar[9] If we have No items of observation data for z,which process[6]. If a dominant source exists, the waterbed effect is in a decision region Z0, then should cause the mainlobe to be prominent.…”
