Reliability Evaluation of a Microgrid Considering Its Operating Condition

Abstract: -Microgrids offer several reliability benefits, such as the improvement of load-point reliability and the opportunity for reliability-differentiated services. The primary goal of this work is to investigate the impacts of operating condition on the reliability index for microgrid system. It relies on a component failure rate model which quantifies the relationship between component failure rate and state variables. Some parameters involved are characterized by subjective uncertainty. Thus, fuzzy numbers are in… Show more

“…The reliability analysis of the microgrid is carried out using a multi-state availability model (MSAM) of different generators to calculate the percentage of risk state probability (generation is inadequate to supply load) and the percentage of healthy state probability (system has adequate reserves). Xu et al [38][39][40] have integrated the consideration of protection and operation into the reliability evaluation of microgrids. However, the reliability analysis developed is not focusing on purely autonomous microgrids with centralized generation and is not integrated into a design method.…”

“…Thus, they offer a distinct approach to reliability evaluation studies. In some references, a combination of load/energy based indices and FAD indices have been used to provide enhanced assessment of system reliability [72][73][74]. Chen et al [73] have performed multi-microgrid system reliability assessment using SAIFI, SAIDI and EENS.…”

“…In the study by Ansari et al (2016), the authors assessed the reliability of microgrids containing prioritized loads and distributed renewable energy resources through a hybrid analytical simulation method. Xu et al (2016) focused on assessing the reliability of the microgrid accurately, taking into account its operating condition. A reliability assessment of the microgrid consisting of conventional generators, a photovoltaic system, and a small hydropower plant based on Monte Carlo simulation was presented (Na and Kim, 2019).…”
