Reliability‐based fault analysis models with industrial applications: A systematic literature review

Abstract: Effective and early fault detection and diagnosis techniques have tremendously enhanced over the years to ensure continuous operations of contemporary complex systems, control cost, and enhance safety in assets‐intensive industries, including oil and gas, process, and power generation. The objective of this work is to understand the development of different fault detection and diagnosis methods, their applications, and benefits to the industry. This paper presents a contemporary state‐of‐the‐art systematic lit… Show more

“…SCOPUS is the largest database for peer-reviewed scientific research and WoS has the oldest coverage for the peer reviewed research since 1900s. Any duplication resulted from two databases are excluded and only one record is used for further analysis (Burnham, 2006;Xu et al, 2017;and Ahmed et al, 2020). Initially, the research databases were searched with the combinations of keywords: ("omni" AND "channel") OR ("multi" AND "channel").…”

“…While searching the SCOPUS database we identified over 34 papers This step was necessary to include recent papers in the area that might be ignored in the co-citation analysis since the latter only uses co-cited papers, and there are several contemporary studies that have adopted this approach (Xu et al, 2017;Ahmed et al, 2020;Raza, 2020). Moreover, recent papers are important since they reflect the latest trends in the field.…”

“…However, in the forthcoming sections a cited author (field, authors) and cited sources (field, source) are also discussed. We employed the Fruchterman Reingold layout (Fahimnia et al , 2015) along with a centrality-base clustering algorithm (Aria and Cuccurullo, 2017; Ahmed et al , 2021; Raza, 2020). Figure 4 shows the Co-citation network analysis that contains nearly one hundred and fifty ( n = 150) most cited references.…”

“…To improve the reliability, availability, and safety of engineering systems, studies have investigated dynamic machine learning (ML) techniques for early fault detection and diagnosis in asset-intensive industries such as the railway, oil and gas, power generation, and process industries [42], [57], [58]. Dynamic probabilistic models such as Bayesian networks (BNs), stochastic Petri nets, and Markov analysis have also been implemented in hybrid forms that consist of at most two techniques for the dynamic failure analysis of complex systems.…”
