Reliability-based assessment of reasonable mid-tower lateral stiffness for a three-tower suspension bridge

Abstract: A reasonable lateral stiffness of the bridge mid-tower should ensure that the deflection-to-span ratio and sliding resistance coefficient satisfy the design requirements. However, if this stiffness is determined by the deterministic parametric analysis, the above two verification indices may exceed the threshold due to the randomness of the high-dimensional structure and load parameters. To satisfy the structural safety requirements of a three-tower suspension bridge during its design life, this study proposes… Show more

“…The procedure is intuitive and the calculation speed is the biggest advantage of this method. [4] However, many reports [5] pointed out that the safety coefficient of the static analysis is not precise enough, the static calculation result is sometimes unreasonable, and the simplified mode needs to be further studied. Reliability analysis can solve these problems and has become an important method for the safety assessment of transmission tower structures.…”
