Reliability and validity of the Arousal Predisposition Scale among Chinese undergraduate students

Abstract

Purpose The study aimed to describe the reliability and validity of the Arousal Predisposition Scale (APS) among undergraduate students. Design and Methods A cross‐sectional design was conducted in a sample of 690 undergraduate students, and all the data were analyzed by SPSS20.0 and AMOS22.0. Findings Two‐factors model were got by using exploratory factor analysis, and the communalities of the items were 0.608 ~ 0.831, explaining 72.595% variance. With confirmatory factor analysis the fit indices were: chi‐square/degree of freedom = 2.736, comparative fit index = 0.965, goodness of fitness index = 0.940, adjusted goodness of fit index = 0.908, incremental fit index = 0.965, root mean square error of approximation = 0.072, Tucker Lewis index = 0.955, rootmean residual = 0.017, all the standards achieved adaption. The internal consistency reliability was 0.903, correlation coefficient of every item and total scale ranging from 0.612 to 0.740. Practice Implications The Arousal Predisposition Scale can be used to evaluate the arousal situation among undergraduate students.
