Reliability and performance modelling of VoIP system with multiple component failures

Abstract: Nowadays Voice over IP (VoIP) has become an evolutionary technology in telecommunications. Because of the increasing dependencies of people on VoIP for voice communication, it is important to design a reliable and performance oriented VoIP system. In this paper a hierarchical model combining reliability and performance is proposed for a server based VoIP system on a wireless network. The top level reliability model consists of only the basic components of a VoIP system. Simultaneous failure of multiple compone… Show more

“…There are various service‐oriented metrics used for service network reliability: end‐to‐end grade of the service, the number of successful VoIP calls, the network operator revenue, etc. In Gupta and Dharmaraja, reliability for a VoIP service network is analyzed by evaluating the number of multiple paths with minimum delay constraint between the specified node pairs inside the network.…”

“…In order to obtain the optimal rejuvenation strategy, system MTTF is maximized subject to a constraint about the time that is spent at the rejuvenation mode. This paper is an extended version of our work published in Gupta and Dharmaraja (2013). In Gupta and Dharmaraja (2013), we incorporated component redundancies to increase system reliability, and also dealt with the simultaneous failure of more than one component.…”

In Gupta and Dharmaraja (2013), we incorporated component redundancies to increase system reliability, and also dealt with the simultaneous failure of more than one component. In this paper, we extend our previous work by proposing an optimal software rejuvenation strategy which further contributes to improved system reliability.…”
