Reliability Analysis of Repairable System With Multiple Fault Modes Based on Goal-Oriented Methodology

Abstract: This paper provides a new goal-oriented (GO) method for reliability analysis of repairable systems with multiple fault modes. First, formulas of operators describing components with multiple fault modes are derived based on Markov process theory. Second, qualitative reliability analysis of such a system is conducted by combining the existing GO method with the Fussell–Vesely method. Third, this new method is applied in reliability analysis of a hydraulic transmission oil supply system. Finally, comparing the s… Show more

“…There are often multiple fault modes for components in repairable systems, eg, the components of a hydraulic system can have 1 to 4 failure mode types . Yi et al developed a new GO method for the reliability analysis of repairable systems with multiple fault modes, and the reliability analysis result was shown to be more accurate . Moreover, all the fault‐mode‐level minimum cut sets of a system can be obtained quickly with this GO method.…”

“…Recently, the GO method has also been applied in the reliability analysis of defense systems, water, oil, and gas supply systems, manufacturing systems, transportation systems, power systems, and logistics management systems [2,3]. Furthermore, the theory of GO method for a complex system with complex correlations (dependencies), closed-loop feedback, multiple functions, multiple fault modes, etc., has been developed from three aspects, which are GO model, basic GO algorithm, and GO method for complex systems with various characteristics [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17]. Literature [2,3] gave the overview of development of GO method in detail.…”

“…Therefore, a new GO method for reliability analysis of repairable systems with multiple fault modes was proposed. The more accurate reliability analysis results and all fault‐mode‐level minimum cut sets of the system can be quickly obtained based on this GO method . For repairable systems with closed‐loop feedback link, a new function GO operator was created based on the Markov process theory to solve quantitative analysis problems for repairable systems with dual input closed‐loop feedback link .…”
