The use of resilience during the mining period by guaranteeing the safety and performance of the systems greatly helps the managers and engineers with their decision-making and designing different systems. During the last two decades, various studies have been conducted in this regard. However, the analysis of underground coal mining systems’ resilience has been rarely addressed by these studies. The present study aims to provide a quantitative index for resilience in the environment of underground coal mining operations based on the risk factors. To do so, in a case study of Tabas Mechanized Coal Mine, the Failure of shearer data and the stoppages caused by it (for 2 years and a half, from March 2017 to June 2019) were studied to analyze the system’s resilience. Then, the experts were surveyed. After collecting and categorizing the data, the data analysis calculations were done for indicators of reliability, maintainability, supportability, organizational resilience, PHM system efficiency, and economic resilience. Finally, a new quantitative index named the “Shearer System Resilience Index” was introduced. The results indicated that resilience is reduced over time. They also shows that in order to improve resilience, project managers should pay more attention to these indicators, especially the indicators of maintainability, and organizational resilience. Therefore, regarding the scope of the data investigated in the current study, the use of Failure of Shearer data-based risk factors and experts’ opinions for the analysis of resilience in the case study is strongly recommended.

Today, carrying ore from the pit to the unloading sites is very important in open-pit mines. In the mines, due to changes in working conditions such as climate and the physical and mental condition of the workforce, uncertainty in the arrival time of trucks and the rate of ore transport is constantly discussed. This study provided a multi-objective mathematical model for programming the allocation of trucks to different loading sites to optimize cost, production, and environmental objectives. Fuzzy Robust Optimization(FRO) is used for the uncertainty, and the model is solved using LP-Metric. Chadormalu mine has been selected as a case study, and a shift transport was planned. Sensitivity analysis of the main parameters showed that the model could control and deal with uncertainty. The results showed that the optimality robustness factor only affects the value of the objective function \({Z}_{t}\), but the feasibility robustness does not affect any of the measurments.

Optimisation of three-dimensional (3D) underground stope layouts is a computationally complex process since it involves the modelling of many variables and constraints. As the number of variables and constraints increases to reflect the actual mining practice, the model complexity and solution time tend to increase exponentially, making the optimisation problem intractable. Metaheuristic approaches have therefore been used predominantly to solve the problem, but do not guarantee ‘true’ optimality. To minimise this limitation, a dual interchange algorithm (DIA) was developed by combining the strengths of two metaheuristic generic algorithms, namely the particle swarm optimisation (PSO) and genetic algorithm (GA). The DIA performance was compared to that of the Mineable Shape Optimizer (MSO) on four different design scenarios. The DIA generated stope layout economic values (SLEV) for three scenarios which were 0.3%, 3.4%, and 8.3% higher than for MSO under fixed and variable stope width conditions, while MSO produced a SLEV which was 9.7% higher than the DIA for a fixed stope width. This paper demonstrates that the DIA is a novel way of solving 3D optimisation of stope layouts under variable stope widths as encountered in actual mining practice.
