Relevance of ultrasound neonatal screening of the urinary system

Abstract: The results of diagnostics of obstructive uropathies and some other congenital changes in the kidneys, which were obtained using neonatal sonographic screening for 2018 in the neonatal unit of the Third Children’s Clinic of the Slovak Medical University, are presented. The results of thisstudy were compared with statistical data from the National Centerfor Medical Information of Slovakia for 2017–2018. The disadvantages of prenatal diagnosis in different regions of the Slovak Republic, as well as some administ… Show more

“…The results of the current study are in line with the conclusions of other authors who note that SVM is a robust classification algorithm that provides high accuracy by transforming data into a high-dimensional feature space, where there is a maximum margin for class separation [31,[40][41][42]. While the accuracy of ML classifiers is lower than conventional threshold-based ROC, their usefulness is better due to the generalisation function: although the expansion of the tested group can give a significantly lower result than when using threshold-based ROC, ML classifiers can maintain their accuracy and generalisation quality, which depend only on the representativeness of the training set.…”

“…Ultrasound screening of congenital developmental anomalies in the kidneys in the newborns is the first stage in the diagnostics of serious renal diseases, the treatment of which consequently requires multidisciplinary coop-eration, in particular of paediatricians, nephrologists and urologists [1,2].…”

“…The level of prenatal screening in different regions of Slovakia varies to a large extent and there are differences among individual physicians as well [4,9]. Using the data from 2006 we know that prenatally, the suspicion of dilation was only raised in a fifth of all infants (18.5%) [1,3,5].…”
