Relevance of FcγRIIIa-158V-F polymorphism to recurrence of adult periodontitis in Japanese patients

Abstract: SUMMARYThe immunoglobulin receptor FcgRIIIa (CD16) is distributed on natural killer (NK) cells, macrophages, and gd T cells, and is polymorphic. FcgRIIIa-158V has a higher affinity for both monomeric and immune complexed IgG1, IgG3, and IgG4 than IIIa-158F. We determined FcgRIIIa-158V/F genotypes of Japanese patients with adult periodontitis. A significant over-representation of FcgRIIIa-158F was found in patients with recurrence, compared with patients without recurrence, making FcgRIIIA a candidate gene for … Show more

“…Although in the literature there are studies suggesting the existence of a relationship between infectious disease attacks and FcγRIIIa and RIIIb polymorphisms [24][25][26], we could not confirm this relationship in this study. If this study is considered to be a preliminary study due to the low number of subjects, in a more comprehensive study, which could be carried out in Turkish population, the relationship between genetic polymorphism of the two different forms of the FcγRIII gene and infections may be established.…”

“…16 The 158V genotype is associated with susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis 17 and immune-mediated thrombocytopenic purpura, 18 better clinical response to rituximab in B-cell lymphomas 19,20 and a lower risk of recurrent periodontitis. 21 In contrast, systemic lupus erythematosus and better clinical outcome of cetuximab against metastatic colorectal cancer correlates with the 158F genotype. 22,23 This study analyzed the effect of donor and recipient SNP (rs396991) in the FCGR3A gene on the clinical outcomes in patients after allogeneic myeloablative BMT using an HLA allele-matched unrelated donor.…”

“…In a Japanese patients, It was found that FcγRIIIa-158F allele was over represented in patients with periodontal disease recurrence. 27 In contrast, another Japanese researchers reported that the FcγRIIIa-158V allele was over-represented in patients with severe periodontitis versus subjects with moderate disease. 28 In this study, a significant association was observed between the FcγRIIIa-158V/F polymorphism and AgP patients.…”
