Relative dosimetrical verification in high dose rate brachytherapy using two-dimensional detector array IMatriXX

Abstract: For high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy, independent treatment verification is needed to ensure that the treatment is performed as per prescription. This study demonstrates dosimetric quality assurance of the HDR brachytherapy using a commercially available two-dimensional ion chamber array called IMatriXX, which has a detector separation of 0.7619 cm. The reference isodose length, step size, and source dwell positional accuracy were verified. A total of 24 dwell positions, which were verified for positional ac… Show more

“…The measured dwell position deviations of our systems are comparable with those from systems based on silicon diode and IC array. 18,31,34 The dwell time deviations are also comparable with those from systems based on silicon diode. 18,31 In terms of functionality, our systems allow not only dwell position and time verification but also source activity monitoring for HDR-BT QA (and in vivo QC with the instrumented applicator).…”

“…6 There have been efforts found within the literature to develop a method for verification of planned dwelling and timing patterns before and during treatment. These include pinhole imaging, 7,8 diamond detectors, 9 flat panel 10 and EPIDs, 11 film and photodiodes, 12 ion chamber arrays, 13 and video cameras. 28 These devices, while capable of source tracking, can be costly and are limited in their ability to perform a quick, comprehensive, and automated analysis of a full treatment plan.…”

“…In this respect, Manikandan et al used commercial ion chamber arrays to measure the dose distribution 29 . However, in their study, the spatial resolution was limited to the 0.76-cm pitch of the detectors.…”
