Relationships between the motorcyclists’ behavioural perception and their actual behaviour

Abstract: Abstract. The paper deals with studying the relationships between the motorcyclists' thinking about proper behaviour and their actual behaviour in the traffic. The impact of some control variables, such as riders' age, experience, driving history, and engine cubature, on actual behaviour, is also addressed here. For the purpose of research, two additional questionnaires were applied besides the well-known Motorcycle Rider Behaviour Questionnaire (MRBQ). To examine the causal relations between all-important lat… Show more

“…The results obtained from this research are in line with most of the previous studies (Elliott et al, 2007;Motevalian et al, 2011;Özkan et al, 2012;Sakashita et al, 2014;Stephens et al, 2017;Sunday, 2010;Topolšek & Dragan, 2018), which find that the MRBQ responses are typically between "never" and "hardly ever". Vietnamese motorists indicated that the most common behaviours were linked to safe riding.…”

“…Other articles focused on using a camera to observe and record factors that cause motorcycle accidents and determine motorcycle driver behaviours [ 6 , 77 , 78 , 79 , 80 , 81 , 82 , 83 ]. One study focused on the use of MetroCount MC-5600 data loggers for the collection of data associated with the driving of vehicles far from or near minor roads [ 84 ]. Another article [ 85 ] used aggregate data involving the value dimensions of Schwartz, the law enforcement regarding five risk factors concerning road safety, and the gross national income for each capita in addition to fatality rates in traffic for 97 nations.…”

“…While researchers have analyzed the visual perception of pedestrians and car drivers in many eye-tracking studies [8], there are only few studies that have been conducted with powered twowheelers. Although important research has been conducted in the past on the correlation between the behavioral perceptions of motorcyclists and their actual behavior [8], changes in the behavior of drivers when driving a motorcycle or car [9], the way motorcyclists recognize objects at the roadside (e.g. advertising)…”
