Relationship of p73 gene polymorphism and additional gene-smoking and gene-obesity interaction with non-small cell lung cancer risk

Abstract: AimThe aim of this study was to investigate the impact of G4C14-to-A4T14 polymorphism within P73 gene and additional interactions with current smoking and obesity on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) risk in a Chinese population.ResultsLogistic regression analysis showed a significant association between genotypes of the AT allele in G4C14-to-A4T14 and decreased NSCLC risk. NSCLC risk was significantly lower in carriers of the G4C14-to-A4T14- AT allele than those with GC/GC genotype (AT/AT + GC/AT versus GC/G… Show more

“…For instance, EPHA4, FGFR2, and EGFR are differentially expressed in lung cancer tissues in cigarette smokers . Additionally, the polymorphism of P73 is suggested to be highly associated with susceptibility to smoking‐related lung cancer . Moreover, transcription factors (TFs) have been identified in lung SCC .…”

“…5 Additionally, the polymorphism of P73 is suggested to be highly associated with susceptibility to smoking-related lung cancer. 6 Moreover, transcription factors (TFs) have been identified in lung SCC. 7 In spite of these findings, lung cancer prognosis in clinical practice has not improved.…”

“…The literature search resulted in the identification of 239 documents: 78 studies were excluded after duplicates were removed, and 112 papers were excluded after review of titles and abstracts. The full text of the 49 remaining publications was screened, and, finally, nine studies including 3543 cases and 4435 control individuals were included 18–22,35–38 . The flow chart of the meta‐analysis is shown in Figure 1.…”

“…Liu et al 28 and Meng et al 24 included one more study than Wang with the same conclusion. However, Meng's meta‐analysis omitted several recently published studies 20,22,37–39 . To elucidate the relationship between genetic polymorphism and lung cancer susceptibility, we searched all relevant studies for the purpose of this meta‐analysis.…”

“…This makes the p53 family particularly relevant in interaction with the environment. For example, G × E interactions have been proposed between TP73 polymorphisms and smoking and obesity in modifying lung cancer risk [82].…”
