“…As we predicted, caregiver's sleep quality was associated with caregiver psychological health (including depression, anxiety, stress) and well‐being; but not resilience. Our findings are consistent with previous research using broad measures of psychological health with mixed populations of children with disability (Bourke‐Taylor et al, 2013) and depression‐specific measures with CP samples (Lee et al, 2018; Safer et al, 2016; Wayte et al, 2012) and provide further support for the importance of sleep for psychological health and well‐being among caregivers of children with CP.…”

“…Research with children with CP indicates a child's sleep disturbance can impact parents' sleep (Adiga et al, 2014; Atmawidjaja et al, 2014). Poorer parental sleep quality is associated with poorer memory (McBean & Schlosnagle, 2016), worse physical health (Lee et al, 2018; McBean & Schlosnagle, 2016) and higher depressive symptoms (Lee et al, 2018) for parents of children with a range of developmental disabilities, including CP. Despite the potential effects of the child's and caregiver's sleep disturbance on caregivers' psychological health, few studies have focused on these likely effects.…”

“…(27) Outro estudo também aponta para a relação diretamente proporcional entre níveis de depressão e sobrecarga de cuidados em mães de crianças com déficit no desenvolvimento, além de relação inversamente proporcional com a qualidade do sono. (28) Portanto, com o aumento da sobrecarga de cuidados durante a pandemia, as mães de crianças com SCZ podem sofrer com sintomas depressivos e má qualidade do sono.…”

“…Relying on self-report may be problematic as 14.9 to 52.5% of these mothers often experience high depressive symptoms (Gallagher et al, 2009b ; Lee et al, 2018a ; Wayte et al, 2012 ) may alter perceptions of their and their children’s sleep problems. Furthermore, although mothers’ impaired sleep was associated with their child’s sleep problems and nighttime caregiving activities for their child with DDs (Bourke-Taylor et al, 2013 ; Goldman et al, 2014 ; Lee et al, 2018b ; Wayte et al, 2012 ), available studies were unable to delineate the extent to which child sleep-wake behaviors required mothers’ nighttime caregiving and its influence on mothers’ impaired sleep.…”
