Relationship of blood flow to antral lesion incidence in rat gastric mucosa after hemorrhage and retransfusion

Abstract: The relationship of gastric mucosal hemodynamics, energy metabolism, and acid to antral histological lesion incidence following hemorrhage and retransfusion was investigated in rats. Decrease of mucosal blood flow and of the index of mucosal oxygen saturation (ISO2) during hemorrhage were slightly greater in the corpus than in the antrum. ATP content and redox ratio in the corpus were decreased by shock; however, these hardly changed in the antrum. The index of tissue hemoglobin concentration (IHb) recovered t… Show more

“…Mucosal tissue samples were collected from both the corpus and antral mucosae, using a local freezing method with the frosted round tip of a glass rod (about 3 mm in diameter) and a thin razor blade as described previously (14). This method is simple, easy, and reproducible, although a small amount of muscle tissue is excised together with mucosal tissue from both the gastric regions.…”

“…This method is simple, easy, and reproducible, although a small amount of muscle tissue is excised together with mucosal tissue from both the gastric regions. The problem in sampling of antral mucosa has been discussed previously (14). Sampling was performed at set time points: before hemorrhage, after 30 and 45min of shock, and 15min after retransfusion.…”
