Relationship Between Retinol-Binding Protein-4/Adiponectin and Leptin/Adiponectin Ratios with Insulin Resistance and Inflammation

Abstract: Hence it appears that whereas both the leptin/adiponectin and RBP4/adiponectin ratios correlate with inflammation, only the RBP4/adiponectin ratio was significantly increased in metabolic syndrome and would be more useful to predict CVD, especially in metabolic syndrome.

“…Jialal and cols. suggested that serum irisin and RBP-4 levels would be independent predictors of CVD in diabetes (30). We think that RBP-4 is significantly associated with nearly all components of MetS and inflammation.…”

“…Many authors found that RBP-4 levels were associated with MetS parameters and HOMA-IR, the duration of diabetes and carotid atherosclerosis as determined by CIMT (26)(27)(28)(29). There are conflicting results about the association of RBP-4 and CRP levels, probably due to methodological differences (30,31). Jialal and cols.…”

“…Thus, negatively regulating the expression of the adiponectin gene leads to low plasma concentrations of adiponectin and so susceptibility to T2DM and obesity (Suriyaprom et al, 2014). In addition, numerous studies reported the association of the minor allele G of rs266729 with low plasma adiponectin concentrations (Jiala et al, 2014;de Haan et al, 2014). Unfortunately adiponectin plasma levels could not be determined in the current study due to logistic difficulties.…”
