Relationship Between Pterygomaxillary Notches and Maxillary Anterior Teeth

Abstract: Total mesiodistal width of the maxillary anterior teeth correlated with the distance between pterygomaxillary notches; however, measurement of the interpterygomaxillary notch could not be used for tooth selection reliably due to the low standardized coefficient. Within the limitations of this study, the interpterygomaxillary notch distance is not useful for the selection of six maxillary anterior teeth in edentulous patients.

“…Discussions on this topic are present in the contemporary professional literature. [20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28] Reviews of the recent scientific literature reveal studies Graph 1: Measurement of IAD in various population groups that were carried out using different methodology and sample size, different face and natural teeth parameters, 8,[10][11][12][13]15,19,20 casts, 5,[16][17][18]21,22 or photographs, 5,14,16,17,20 as well as various types of gauge which make the comparison of results very difficult. The authors here used a variety of instruments to determine the measurements.…”

“…There is no consensus of data regarding a single esthetic factor that can be used reliably as an aid for artificial tooth selection. [13][14][15][16][17][18][19] Hence, this systematic review was carried out to try and identify a single, reliable anthropometric measurement that can be used to determine the size of the anterior teeth in various population groups.…”

“…If the teeth selection does not meet the expectations of the patient, it is very disappointing, especially for maxillary teeth. 1 Usually, the methods followed are Berry's biometric method, anthropometric cep halic index (ACI), dentogenic concept. 2,3 Because of the occurrence of dynamic alterations with time, the accuracy of Berry's biometric method is doubtful, as it prime focus is on soft tissue landmarks.…”
