Relationship between prosthetic factors and oral health-related quality of life in complete denture wearers

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of prosthetic-related factors on OHRQoL. METHODS: Twenty-eight edentulous patients, conventional complete dentures wearers, composed the sample. “…The number of patients who need conventional complete denturers is on a rise (Negahdari et al, 2016) and is the most common type of prosthesis used (Reginato et al, 2017;G Ashok & Ganapathy, 2017). The demand for dentures (or other prosthetic rehabilitation) is increasing dramatically due to an increase in the rate of edentulousness (Khan & Khan, 2015;Srisilapananet al, 2016;Deniz & Kulak Ozkan, 2012;Santos et al, 2015).…”

“…Partial or total edentulism may result in a significant deterioration of the health of the stomatognathic system and may result in structural and pathological changes in the temporomandibular joint, which may be symptomatic or asymptomatic 2,3 . The loss of teeth limits the functions directly linked to the maintenance of quality of life [4][5][6] . Their impact may still result in decreased chewing and phonation capacity, as well as nutritional, aesthetic and psychological losses, with reductions in self-esteem and social integration 7 .…”
