Relationship Between Otolith Measurements Against Length and Weight Body of Four Ponyfish Species

El análisis de otolitos es clave para entender la vida y comportamiento de peces, así como para identificar especies en investigaciones sobre filogenia y sistemática. El propósito de este estudio fue describir los otolitos sagitales de peces pelágicos pequeños (Familia Carangidae) de interés comercial en las costas del Pacífico ecuatoriano y comparar la correlación entre la talla del pez y la longitud del otolito. Las muestras se recolectaron durante seis meses, entre febrero y julio de 2014, en distintos puertos pesqueros de la región y se identificaron a nivel de especie. Los otolitos se extrajeron mediante corte ventral, pasando por un proceso de limpieza, blanqueo, secado y almacenamiento. Se describieron las características morfológicas distintivas de los otolitos para cada especie, evaluando la similitud en su forma. Se registraron datos de longitud total (LT) y longitud del otolito (LO). Se llevaron a cabo análisis de regresión lineal y correlación de Pearson, y se evaluó la similitud entre otolitos mediante un dendrograma de similitud (UPGMA) utilizando el índice de Bray-Curtis. Se analizaron un total de 270 pares de otolitos correspondientes a 9 especies, determinando que Oligoplites saurus exhibió la mayor correlación entre LT y LO (r=0,926), mientras que Carangoides otrynter mostró la menor correlación (r=0,632). Selar crumenophthalmus compartió menos características morfológicas con todas las especies, seguida por O. saurus, mientras que Selene peruviana y S. brevoortii presentaron la mayor similitud morfológica en sus otolitos.
