“…This correlation might be induced by hexose originating from microorganisms. According to Tanaka et al (1995), the amount of neutral sugars including mannose considered to be mainly of microbial origin was highly correlated with the total carbon content in volcanic soils in Japan, and the correlation of the content of cellulose-type glucose which was assumed to be mainly of plant origin was relatively less significant. The content of humic acid as well as that of total carbon was significantly correlated with the contents of hexose and pentose in all the fractions, and showed a higher correlation with the pentose content in cellulosic carbohydrates (r = 0.763, p <0.001).…”
