Despite an alarming increase in the prevalence of hypertension among Chinese young adults, longitudinal studies investigating factors that affect the maintenance of normal blood pressure (BP) in this population are lacking. Our study aimed to address this knowledge gap. A total of 7100 participants from the Kailuan Study who had normal BP and were aged <30 years at their first physical examination between 2006 and 2016 were included in this study. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to assess hazard ratios (HR), and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated to assess the associations between influencing factors and the maintenance of normal BP in young adults. Analyses were stratified by sex. During the follow‐up period (mean, 7.98 years), 1921 participants (27.06%) maintained normal BP. Higher education levels (HR, 1.11; 95% CI, 1.00–1.22), low salt intake (HR, 1.25; 95% CI, 1.04–1.51), being underweight (HR, 1.16; 95% CI, 1.02–1.31), and having normal weight (HR, 1.19; 95% CI, 1.01–1.39), normal blood glucose (HR, 1.22; 95% CI, 1.02–1.46), and no family history of hypertension (HR, 1.65; 95% CI, 1.41–1.92) at baseline were found to be associated with maintaining normal BP. Compared with female smokers, female non‐smokers had 1.68 times higher odds of maintaining normal BP. This study identified factors that influence the maintenance of normal BP in the young population in China. This information can assist clinicians in establishing comprehensive and effective primary prevention measures for hypertension.

Background Although studies have demonstrated the value of the triglyceride–glucose (TyG) index for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cardiovascular mortality, however, few studies have shown that the TyG index is associated with all-cause or CVD mortality in young patients with diabetes. This study aimed to investigate the association between the TyG index and all-cause and CVD mortality in young patients with diabetes in the United States. Methods Our study recruited 2440 young patients with diabetes from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2001–2018. Mortality outcomes were determined by linking to National Death Index (NDI) records up to December 31, 2019. Cox regression modeling was used to investigate the association between TyG index and mortality in young patients with diabetes. The nonlinear association between TyG index and mortality was analyzed using restricted cubic splines (RCS), and a two-segment Cox proportional risk model was constructed for both sides of the inflection point. Results During a median follow-up period of 8.2 years, 332 deaths from all causes and 82 deaths from cardiovascular disease were observed. Based on the RCS, the TyG index was found to have a U-shaped association with all-cause and CVD mortality in young patients with diabetes, with threshold values of 9.18 and 9.16, respectively. When the TyG index was below the threshold value (TyG index < 9.18 in all-cause mortality and < 9.16 in CVD mortality), its association with all-cause and CVD mortality was not significant. When the TyG index was above the threshold (TyG index ≥ 9.18 in all-cause mortality and ≥ 9.16 in CVD mortality), it showed a significant positive association with all-cause mortality and CVD mortality (HR 1.77, 95% CI 1.05–2.96 for all-cause mortality and HR 2.38, 95% CI 1.05–5.38 for CVD mortality). Conclusion Our results suggest a U-shaped association between TyG index and all-cause and CVD mortality among young patients with diabetes in the United States, with threshold values of 9.18 and 9.16 for CVD and all-cause mortality, respectively.

Background The association between the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and the risk of early-onset atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) events or all-cause mortality in young and middle-aged people is not fully elucidated. Methods The present study included 64,489 young and middle-aged people who participated in the 2006 Kailuan Study physical examination. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards models and restricted cubic spline curves were used to assess the association of TyG index with early-onset ASCVD events and all-cause mortality. Results During a median of 11-year follow-up, 1984 (3.08%) participants experienced at least one ASCVD event and 1,392 (2.16%) participants experienced all-cause death. A higher TyG index was significantly associated with a higher risk of early-onset ASCVD events (HR: 1.61, 95% CI 1.38–1.89) and all-cause mortality (HR: 1.39, 95% CI 1.17–1.65), respectively. For each unit increase in TyG index, the risk of early-onset ASCVD events increased by 20%. In addition, there was a non-linear association between the TyG index and early-onset ASCVD events (P for non-linear < 0.01), and a linear association between TyG index and all-cause mortality (P for non-linear = 0.476). Conclusions A higher TyG index is significantly associated with an increased incidence of early-onset ASCVD events and all-cause mortality in a young and middle-aged population from North China.
