Relationship between attention and balance: a dual-task condition study in children

Abstract: This study explored the relationship between motor functions and attention in children aged 4–5 years. A sample of 85 children was collected from a primary school (44 boys and 41 girls). We applied a standardized continuous attention performance test, the Kiddie Continuous Performance Test, under two conditions (sitting and balancing). Data were collected from two standardized balance tests, the Battelle and Pediatric Balance Scale. There was a significant relationship between attention and balance and gender … Show more

“…These results evidenced a cost in motor performance when a cognitive task was developed at the same time, phenomenon described previously works carried out in the field of motor behavior (Abuin-Porras et al, 2018;Estevan et al, 2018;Huang et al, 2003;Lacour et al, 2008). Interestingly, in all groups between 9 to 12 years old, higher postural control and stability were observed during the execution of the 5D dual-task than during the 3D task.…”

“…Measure used Conners’s Attention test for Children KCPT ( Abuin-Porras et al, 2018 ) and The Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) ( Garcìa et al, 2016 ) for CP. KCPT is a computerized test designed to diagnostic attention disorders in children, provides an estimation index of ADHD diagnostic (it uses a 0%–100% risk scale).…”

“…Several researchers have reported the relationship between balance and dual-task performance in older adults or persons with neurological diseases [16][17][18][19]. McCulloch et al [19] studied to examine the relationship between postural stability, attention, and dual-task performance in those with acquired brain injury.…”
