Abstract

Aim: This study was carried out to determine the relationship between alexithymia and empathy in nursing and midwifery students. Method: This descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional study was performed 240 students who volunteered to participate in the study on the date during which data were collected studying at the nursing and midwifery department of the Faculty of Health Sciences of a state university during the 2016-2017 Spring Semester. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, the Basic Empathy Scale (BES) and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale . Frequency, percentage, mean, Mann-Whitney U test for binary groups, Kruskal-Wallis H Test and Spearman correlation analysis test for more than two groups were used in the evaluation of data.
