“…In comparison, the studies included in the meta-analysis had high cardiovascular risk profile. For example, 44% of patients in Cheriyath's22 sample were hypertensives; 24% of Bikkina's19 study population were hypertensive; 40% of Kennedy's12 population were smokers and dyslipidaemic and 34% of Abdalla's17 sample were smokers.…”

“…For example, where Massing et al ,25 2006 and Cheriyath et al ,22 2011 used the same ARIC (Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities) database, only Cheriyath's study was included in the meta-analysis. Bikkina et al 19 and Hirose et al 21 analysed male and female patients separately.…”

“…On the other hand, data from atherosclerosis in communities (ARIC) cohort showed conflicting results regarding APC’s on a 2 minute rhythm strip and mortality 9 . We speculate that the difference might be because of increased sensitivity of 2 minute versus 10 seconds (ordinary ECG) in picking up APC’s.…”

“…To our knowledge, only one previous study investigated complex ventricular arrhythmia in nondialysis CKD patients and found a prevalence of 17% [5], which is similar to our data. Considering that the prevalence of simple ventricular premature complexes is only 3.8-5.4% in general populations with a similar age distribution as our cohort [14,15], these results suggest that complex arrhythmias are approximately 3- to 5-fold more common in CKD stage 2-5 patients not undergoing dialysis. …”
