Relation of apparent diffusion coefficient with Ki-67 proliferation index in meningiomas

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Ki-67 proliferation indexes and ADC values of low-grade and atypical/anaplastic (high-grade) meningiomas. In addition, we compared the ADC and Ki-67 proliferative index values of the low-grade and atypical/anaplastic (high-grade) meningiomas. We concluded that there was an inverse correlation between the ADC and Ki-67 proliferation index values in meningiomas, and we have found statistically significant difference between the ADC values of t… Show more

“…Some studies have shown that ADC values are useful in identifying high-grade meningioma and have lower ADC values. [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18] In a Student's t-test, minimum, maximum, and mean apparent diffusion coefficient (ADCmin, ADCmax, and ADCmean), AD, RD, and FA; ratio of the ADCmin, ADCmax, ADCmean AD, RD, and FA values (rADCmin, rADCmax, rADCmean, rAD, rRD, and rFA). recent study, it was found that when the cutoff ADC value was set as 0.85 × 10 −3 mm 2 s −1 , sensitivity was 72.9%, specificity was 73.1%, and accuracy was 73.0% in low-and high-grade meningioma differentiation.…”

“…Some studies have reported that ADC values are useful when determining high-grade meningioma and have shown that high-grade meningioma have lower ADC values associated with high cellularity when compared with low-grade meningioma. [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18] However, a limited number of studies have reported that ADC values are not reliable when differentiating between low-and high-grade meningioma. 19,20 Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) shows the magnitude and directionality of water molecule diffusion and thus gives information about the microstructural integrity of the tissue.…”

“…Despite advancements in MR aiding in the diagnosing of meningiomas, it is not yet predictive of pathological grade or other measure of the aggressive nature of the lesion. Some have shown that there is an inverse correlation between the ADC and Ki-67 proliferation index values in meningiomas, and thus associate the ADC values of the lowgrade and high-grade meningiomas (49). PET imaging technology is serving to circumvent the some of the issues with MRI to discern early recurrence versus treatment-related radiographic changes with utilization of a 68-Gallium-labeled somatostatin-receptor analogue (68-Ga-DOTATE) (50).…”

“…Contralateral normal-appearing white matter was defined in the centrum semiovale in the hemisphere contralateral to the lesion in accordance with former studies. 7,10 If a tumor was located on the midline, the ROI for comparison was chosen in the centrum semiovale of both hemispheres, and the mean value was used. Afterward, the same ROIs were obtained from anatomic MR images for all parametric maps.…”

“…Diffusion MR imaging is a technique that can measure the degree of mobility of water molecules within biologic tissue. Conventional DWI and DTI can provide conventional diffusion metrics, such as ADC, fractional anisotropy (FA), and mean diffusivity (MD), but they are not sufficiently accurate in evaluating the meningioma grade and Ki-67 expression 3,[6][7][8][9][10] because conventional DWI and DTI assume that water diffusion follows a Gaussian distribution. However, the complexity of normal and pathologic tissue leads to hindered diffusion of water molecules and, therefore, should follow a non-Gaussian distribution.…”
