Relation Between Electric Currents and Ultraviolet Radiation of the Active Region

Abstract

Using data from Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) and Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) in the band 193Å onboard Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) spacecraft we analyzed a relationship between the electric currents and intensity of ultraviolet (UV) radiation in an active region (AR) NOAA 12192 observed from October 22 to October 25, 2014. Basing on vertical electric currents data and potential field calculations, we derived the global electric current distributed over a large area around the mail sunspot. We also calculated the total intensity of ultraviolet radiation. We found that there is a good correlation (k = 0.63) between the magnitude of the global electric current and the intensity of UV radiation in the corona. It is possible to suggest that ohmic dissipation of large-scale current systems makes a significant contribution to the heating of coronal structures. The relationship between the temporal changes of the global current in the AR and the heating of the corona is in accordance with the concept of the contour model of the current-carrying loop.
