Relating confidence to measured information uncertainty in qualitative reasoning

Abstract: Qualitative reasoning Jllilkes use of qualitative assessments provided by subject matter experts to model facwrs such as security risk. Confidence in a result is important and useful when comparing competing results. Quantifying the confidence in an evidential reasoning result must be consistent and based on the available information. A novel method is proposed to relate confidence to the available information uncertainty in the result using fuzzy sets. Information uncertainty can be quantified through measure… Show more

“…This approach can be performed for each explosive attribute. The inference approach relies on rules derived from the available literature (2,3,6) well as subject matter experts (1) and has been used in many applications (4,5,7). Figure 7 below illustrates which explosive attributes are inferred from the detailed determinant information.…”

“…This is not something new; in fact, there are already languages that try it, such as GRAFCET, using logic gates [ 11 ]. This language is a procedure of synthesis and reduction of both the steps and the memory locations needed to automate an industrial process, using the existing digital simplification methods [ 12 ]. Its main problem is that if there is a malfunction of the deduced system, it is very difficult to determine where the error is, since the relationship between the resulting equation and the real logic of the system’s operation has been lost [ 13 ].…”
