Este trabalho de natureza teórica pretende apresentar o modelo de Sidney Blatt e discutir em torno de algumas das suas implicações clínicas. O artigo está organizado em diferentes secções. Começamos por abordar a conceptualização do autor sobre a depressão, de seguida descrevemos a sua proposta sobre o desenvolvimento da personalidade e os dois estilos de personalidade que concebeu, anaclítico e introjectivo. De seguida referimo-nos às estruturas ou esquemas cognitivo-afectivos e às duas configurações psicopatológicas descritas por Blatt. Continuamos discutindo em torno das relações existentes entre essas duas configurações psicopatológicas e fazemos depois uma síntese/reflexão sobre o modelo. O artigo termina com uma discussão sobre as implicações clínicas do modelo.
Palavras-chave:Relacionamento, Auto-definição, Sidney Blatt, Conceptualização, Implicações clínicas.Na década de 70 do século passado, Blatt e colegas (Blatt, 1974;Blatt, D'Afflitti, & Quinlan, 1976;Blatt, Wein, Chevron, & Quinlan, 1979;Chevron, Quinlan, & Blatt, 1978) iniciaram uma série de estudos sobre a depressão tendo por base a premissa de que esta podia ser mais bem compreendida se considerada como um desvio em relação ao desenvolvimento normal e não como um entidade ou um conjunto de entidades nosológicas independentes e bem delimitadas. Blatt considerou importante estudar as experiências depressivas, as vivências internas dos sujeitos, indo além dos sintomas manifestos das síndromas depressivas. Na sua perspectiva, o indivíduo pode vivenciar experiências típicas dos depressivos sem estar clinicamente deprimido. Mais tarde Blatt (Blatt, , 2008Blatt & Shichman, 1983) generalizou o seu modelo à compreensão da psicopatologia e não apenas da depressão, elaborou um modelo do desenvolvimento da personalidade e aplicou-o ao estudo do processo psicoterapêutico.
