“…The occurrence of NA during post‐partum and pregnancy periods (3 of our cases) has also been reported ( Redmond et al, 1989 ; Lederman and Wilbourn, 1996 ) . Our series of 40 consecutive cases includes 7 relapsing forms ( Parsonage and Turner, 1948 ; Turner, 1957 ; Tsairis et al, 1972 ; Geiger et al, 1974 ; Subramony, 1988 ; Redmond et al, 1989 ; Arpa et al, 1991 ) , but no familial history ( Taylor, 1960 ; Smith et al, 1971 ; Geiger et al, 1974 ; Phillips, 1986 ; Pellegrino et al, 1996 ) . An autoimmune cause has been suspected because some cases present after vaccination, infection, illness, surgery, or childbirth ( Turner, 1957 ; Tsairis et al, 1972 ; England and Sumner, 1987 ; Pierre et al, 1990 ; Lederman and Wilbourn, 1996 ) , but in general laboratory studies have not shown specific immune abnormalities ( England, 1999 ) .…”
