This paper investigates the mediating effect of management control systems in the interaction between ambidexterity and organizational learning in Brazilian non-profit organizations. Organizational learning is addressed in the literature as an antecedent of ambidexterity, whereas the use of management control systems finds dichotomous evidence in the literature as to its effect concerning those previous constructs. This descriptive research with a quantitative approach was carried out through a survey. The research sample comprised 227 valid responses collected from the presidents of the organizations. This work reveals the positive relationship between organizational learning and ambidexterity, as well as observing that the use of management control systems tends to inhibit innovation through a mediating effect. The approach of these constructs in nonprofit environments contributes to the need for sustainability of these organizations. Findings highlight the innovative panorama of these organizations between exploitation and exploration strategies and the achievement of ambidextrous skills, also pointing out the use of management control systems, as well as the evidence of organizational learning.

As cooperativas agropecuárias têm um papel importante na promoção do agronegócio brasileiro. Diante desse cenário e dos desafios enfrentados por elas, torna-se necessário o alinhamento entre eficiência na gestão dos negócios e adaptabilidade às mudanças, a fim de equilibrar as ações de exploitation e exploration, e obter uma cadeia de suprimentos bem integrada. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi analisar qual a relação entre o grau de verticalização e a ambidestralidade (ações de exploitation e exploration) em cooperativas agropecuárias brasileiras que estão localizadas no estado de Goiás. Trata-se de um estudo em que se analisam os construtos “verticalização” e “ambidestralidade”. O estudo foi realizado a partir da aplicação de um questionário às cooperativas e em que foram utilizados os dados referentes ao Censo do Cooperativismo Goiano de 2019. Os dados foram analisados com base na análise de cluster e em testes de média não paramétricos. As maiores contribuições do estudo relacionam-se à observação do crescimento do grau de vertacalização, que se refere à realização de maior quantidade de atividade dentro da cadeia das coooperativas agropecuárias, e da ambidestralidade, uma vez que se observou a tendência de que quanto maior média do grau de ambidestralidade nas cooperativas, mais ações de exploitation e exploration realizam quando comparadas às demais.
