The study investigated the relationship between childhood trauma and types of attachment and the predictive role of childhood trauma on types of attachment. The sample was composed of 911 (492 female; 419 male) university students at Mugla Sitki Kocman University, in Turkey. Data were collected using the brief screening version of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire and Relationship Scales Questionnaire. Pearson product-moment correlation analysis was employed to search for relationship between childhood trauma and types of attachment; structural equation modeling was also used for explaining the predictive role of childhood trauma on types of attachment. It was found that the physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, and physical and emotional neglect subdimensions of childhood trauma were positively related to fearful, preoccupied, and dismissing attachment styles; whereas these same variables were negatively related to the secure attachment style. Results were discussed in the light of previous findings and in the context of childhood trauma and attachment styles. Further replications using larger samples should be conducted to explore the relationship between childhood trauma and attachment styles.

Ostracism -being excluded and ignored -is painful and threatens needs for belonging, self-esteem, control and meaningful existence. Many studies have shown that immediate responses to ostracism tend to be resistant to moderation. Once ostracized individuals are able to reflect on the experience, however, personality and situational factors moderate recovery speed and behavioural responses. Because attachment orientation is grounded in perceptions of belonging, we hypothesized that attachment orientation would moderate both immediate and delayed reactions to laboratory-induced ostracism. Participants from individualistic or collectivistic cultures were either included or ostracized in a game of Cyberball, a virtual ball-toss game. In both cultures, we found that compared to more securely attached individuals, more avoidant participants were less distressed by ostracism, but more distressed by inclusion. It is suggested that over and beyond differences in culture, individuals who avoid meaningful attachment may be less affected by ostracism.

ÖzBu araştırma gençlerin evlilik ve toplumsal cinsiyet rollerine ilişkin tutumlarının, değişkenlere göre farklılık gösterip göstermediğini belirlemeye yönelik olarak planlanıp yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın örneklemini, iki farklı üniversitede öğrenim görmekte olan üniversite öğrencileri arasından uygun örnekleme yoluyla seçilen 307 lisans öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma grubundakilerin %56,2'sini (n=172) kız, %43,8'ini (n=135) erkek öğrenciler oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada öğrencilerin evlilik ve toplumsal cinsiyete yönelik tutumları hem cinsiyete (t(307)=7.03, p<0.05) hem de öğrenim düzeylerine (F(307)=6,34, p<.05) bağlı olarak anlamlı şekilde değişmektedir. Evliliğe yönelik tutum boyutu ile eşitlikçi cinsiyet rolüne yönelik tutum arasında pozitif yönlü ve anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu belirlenmiştir (r= ,13 ve p<0,05). Araştırma sonucunda elde edilen bulgular sosyal ve davranış bilimleri yaklaşımlarına dayalı olarak tartışılmıştır.Anahtar Kelimeler: Evlilik tutumları, aile yaşamı, cinsiyet rolleri, gençlerin tutumu, üniversite öğrencileri. AbstractThis study has been carried out to determine attitudes toward marriage and gender role of the university youth. The sample of the study constitutes of 307 undergraduate students selected by apropriate sampling among the university students studying at two different universities. Of the university students included in the research were 56,2% female (n=172) and 43,8% male students (n=135). It has been found in this study, students attitudes towards marriage and gender role indicate statistically significant difference both of gender (t(307)= 7.03, p<0.05) and classes (t(307)= 7.03, p<0.05). It was determined that there is a positive and meaningful relationship between attitude towards marriage and attitude towards equal gender role (r= ,13 ve p<,05). Results are discussed based on ithin social and behavioral sciences approach.
