Reiseavstand og bruk av legevakt

Abstract: This supports previous findings to the fact that distance is a crucial factor for the utilisation of out-of-hours medical services. Establishing inter-municipal casualty clinics and co-locating them with hospitals may contribute to a lower rate of use of out-of-hours medical services.

“…For example, the number of reimbursement claims for OOH services on Easter Saturday in 2015 was 25 % higher than on an ordinary Saturday (Hogne Sandvik, personal communication). We have shown previously that the geographical distance to the OOH service strongly influences the extent to which the inhabitants use the service (13,14), and in the results presented in this article, we have not taken this into account. It is possible to make adjustments for distance in the interactive material.…”

In Switzerland, the distance between patients and doctors are much shorter than in Canada, Northern Ireland -or Norway, where home visits are offered for patients residing even 50 km away [12]. The average distance between patients and primary care providers in Switzerland is 1.1 km [27].…”

“…Indeed, home visits account for a substantial amount of workload, as shown in a recent study from Germany [11]. Similarly, increased geographical distance has been associated with decreased frequency of primary care supply including home visits in other countries [12,13]. Besides long journeys, the consultation itself might be long.…”
