HORA DAS MATINAS: Narração -A recolhaMuitas histórias, há muito, povoam o imaginário ocidental, embora, nem sempre, sejam ocidentais. Essas narrativas se fazem presentes ora por trazerem uma referência abalizada, importante para a sustentação de uma opinião ou para causar um impacto tartamudeador; ora para servir de ilustração ou de fonte para algum dizer, sem menção à origem, por ser dispensável ou por estar apagada do consciente.Narrativas clássicas, com forte apelo popular, que ganham grande projeção, são as mais recorrentes. Estão sempre vindo à baila, por citação direta ou indireta, ao se retomar um clima romântico, ao se descrever uma situação inspiradora, ao se entreter com um caso intrigante. Por este, começa-se.Numa região rural da Inglaterra, num ambiente soturno, cercado por grande pântano, mora uma família aristocrata, marcada por grandes tragédias. A mansão onde residem é um patrimônio hereditário, como todos os bens familiares. Todo descendente que assumia o patriarcado familiar era assassinado por um cão diabólico, com pelos fosforescentes e língua flamejante, e o extinto era consumido pelo pântano. A primeira vítima foi sir Hugo, decano da família; depois, sir Charles; e, corria grande perigo, o próximo na sucessão, sir Henry. Temeroso pela vida de sir Henry, o vizinho, Sir Spatelon, chama um detetive astuto, da rua Baker de Londres, com seu assistente, que, depois de velho, conta a história dos assassinatos da família Baskerville.Sir Arthur Conan Doyle chamou esse romance policial de "O cão dos Baskerville", narrado por dr. Watson, assistente ficcionado pelo mestre Sherlock Homes que assevera:Quanto mais ultrajante e grotesco um incidente for, com maior cuidado merece ser examinado, e exatamente o detalhe que parece complicar um caso é, quando bem considerado e cientificamente analisado, aquele que mais provavelmente o elucidará. 1 A ambientação, recurso descritivo, é muito importante para a criação do clima necessário para o desenvolvimento de uma narrativa. Às vezes, um ambiente externo, como o pântano em que vive o cão flamejante; às vezes, interno, como um mosteiro, ou, mais interiorizada, uma biblioteca, como a descrita por Jorge Luis Borges, que morreu cego aos 97 anos, em 1986. Seu complexo conto "A biblioteca de Babel" traz a aclimatação de uma biblioteca, patrimônio de conhecimentos, analisada sobre os mais diversos ângulos, como a corresponder às angústias e aos anseios da humanidade, permitindo grande número de interpretações, como as indefinidas e infinitas áreas de composição.1 Doyle, 2013.Recolha, escolha, eficácia: o ethos da inventio -17 O UNIVERSO (que outros chamam a Biblioteca) compõe-se de um número indefinido, e talvez infinito, de galerias hexagonais, com vastos poços de ventilação no centro, cercados por balaustradas baixíssimas. This article demonstrates the many seamless ways that multiple and diverse publics align their automatic, instinctual behaviors within the broad agenda of neoliberalism. Rather than surreptitiously crafting discourse to appeal to unconscious public dispositions, as neoliberalism does, it suggests that counterpublics consciously apply this technology to themselves. Specifically, it advocates that they forge a productive friction between rational critical thought and bodily habituation so as to reconstitute public orientations and open unexpected occasions for oppositional communication. This requires that scholars engage both traditional neoliberal critics and new materialist critics to tease out the embodied aspects of publics theory and infuse new materialism with an oppositional edge. Michel Foucault’s late lectures provide a theoretical and practical scaffolding for this practice of differently capacitating bodies. The article concludes by gesturing at how this public formation might further pull from underutilized rhetorical resources to expand the communicative possibilities of counterpublic production.

The grotesque protest—emboldened through social media—employs the body’s fluids to push back against attempts to legislate bodies. Although social media use is commonly understood as engaging audience members who share ideological frames, it can instead diversify protest networks and encourage discourse. Social media provides individuals opportunities to resist attempts to control bodies and to reinsert individuals’ voices in political discourse aimed to exclude those bodies. The body functions as the modality in which the communicative act occurs, and the body’s fluids function as the medium for inventing disruptive, grotesque protest strategies. Activists such as Rupi Kaur, The Satanic Temple’s Jex Blackmore, and those using Twitter hashtags #periodsforPence and #PEEOTUS use bodily fluids and tissues to emphasize resistance to political movements attempting to control and legislate bodies. The protest campaigns show that the grotesque can be an effective tool for opening space, transgressing boundaries, demanding attention, and equalizing differential political power relations.
